In September 2020, the Central Florida Expressway Authority began designing State Road 516 (Lake-Orange Expressway), a new four-lane limited access expressway from US 27 to State Road 429. The expressway is divided into three segments: Segment 1, from US 27 to west of Cook Road; Segment 2, from west of Cook Road to the Lake/Orange County line; and Segment 3, from the Lake/Orange County line to SR 429. The new expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Lake and Orange counties, as well as meet future traffic needs.

The 5-mile expressway includes interchanges at US 27, CR 455, Valencia Parkway and SR 429. The design realigns US 27 to avoid impacts to Lake Louisa State Park and adds bike trails along SR 516, US 27, CR 455 and Valencia Parkway. This project will also be unveiling CFX’s in-lane pavement self-charging system pilot project in partnership with the ASPIRE Engineering Research Center.

The virtual public information meeting will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 and the in-person meetings will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 and Thursday, February 23, 2023. Please see below for details:
