Celebrates 2022 nomination to the County’s Women’s Hall of Fame and names new Chair and Vice Chair to the Board
On Tuesday morning, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners presented the 2022 State of the County address. The ceremony included induction of a new Women’s Hall of Fame recipient, a video presentation, and the introduction of the Board’s new Chair and Vice Chair.
Catherine “Micki” Langley Blackburn Nagel was added to the County’s Women’s Hall of Fame for her local business success and philanthropy. Mrs. Blackburn founded and led one of the County’s most proficient real estate firms for more than 30 years. Returning her success to her community, she helped fund a mammogram testing program for underprivileged women at South Lake Hospital and the Thomas Langley Medical Center.
After the Hall of Fame celebration and video presentation, the Board voted unanimously to instate Commissioner Kirby Smith as Lake County’s new Board of County Commissioners Chairman.
First elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2020, Commissioner Smith has dedicated his life to serving his community as a firefighter/EMT and youth baseball coach. From 2009 to 2019, Commissioner Smith held positions on the Tavares City Council as City Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Council Member.
Commissioner Shields, District 1, was selected as Vice Chair. Commissioner Shields has broad experience in government, business, education, and nonprofit work. Since his 2010 arrival in Lake County, Commissioner Shields has successfully demonstrated his great passion for protecting the rights and investments of community citizens against the threats of traffic, pollution, and excessive development in treasured rural areas.
