The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team had a tough week of competition playing four matches including a long weekend road trip up to the Florida Panhandle. LSSC ended the week at 1-3, their lone win of the week being at home against Santa Fe.
Lake-Sumter 0, No. 4 (Region 8) St. Johns River State College 3 (24-26, 26-28, 12-25)
LSSC faced Sun-Lakes Conference opponent St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) on Tuesday for their first meeting of the season. While the Lakehawks fell short, the team outhit the Vikings 12 kills to nine in the first set and 16 kills to 15 in the second set.
Freshman Alanys Rodriguez Lozada recorded a double-double with 13 assists and 13 digs. Nadeshly Mojica Rivera also added 12 assists.
Alyssa Guarino recorded 19 digs while Yarelis Lopez Osorio had 16 digs.
Lake-Sumter 3, Santa Fe College 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23)
The Lakehawks added a "W" in the win column on Wednesday evening with an exciting 3-0 non-conference win over Santa Fe. The two teams battled back and forth the entire match for the Lakehawks to ultimately clinch the victory.
Lopez Osorio was a standout both offensively and defensively posting 12 kills with seven digs.
Cecilia Calton was a great offensive influence from the setter position with 13 assists. Rodriguez Lozada was right behind Calton with 11 assists.
Lake-Sumter 0, No. 15 (NJCAA) / No. 1 (Region 8) Gulf Coast State College 3 (18-25, 19-25, 28-30)
LSSC traveled to the Florida panhandle to meet nationally ranked Gulf Coast for the second time this season on Friday evening.
Lopez Osorio recorded another double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Calton registered a double-double as well with 10 assists and 13 digs.
The Lakehawk defense stayed up to keep their set scores so close. With Calton and Lopez Osorio, Guarino posted 25 digs by herself.
Lake-Sumter 0, No. 3 (Region 8) Pensacola State College 3 (8-25, 21-25, 20-25)
The Lakehawks faced Pensacola State for their fourth match of the long week Saturday afternoon. The first set was quick, but the team fought hard for the second two sets coming up just a few points short in each.
Kaylee Hunt and Lopez Osorio each recorded 13 digs while Guarino had 12 digs. Calton added 10 assists.
The Lakehawks are now hold a 9-12 overall record and a 3-9 conference record headed into the weekend.
