Lake County Library Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Lake County’s Library System is celebrating 40 years of service to the Lake County community this month. Forming in 1982, the Library System was established by Ordinance 1982-18 with Cooper Memorial Library, Umatilla Public Library, and Eustis Memorial Library.

In 2022, the Library System consists of 16 libraries serving more than 180,000 patrons with some 695,000 items available to the public. The Lake County Library System provides the community with a myriad of services, in-person programming, and materials, including books, DVDs, and digital items, to enrich the lives of those in the county.

“Our libraries offer advanced technology, the best resources, and engaging programs to our neighbors. We look forward to continuing to serve Lake County for many years to come,” said George Taylor, Director of the Lake County Library System.

In celebration of this milestone anniversary, Lake County Library System is challenging the community to explore its libraries and services with the “40 Things to Do at Your Lake Library” activity list. Those who complete at least 20 items on the list can have their names added to a time capsule to be opened at the Library System’s 50th anniversary in 2032. The challenge begins Monday, September 12, and will end Saturday, December 31, 2022.
