Keep Lake Beautiful and the Lake County Adopt-a-Lake program are partnering with the Town of Howey-in-the-Hills and the Lake County Water Authority to host a Love Our Lakes cleanup event. The event will take place on Saturday, May 14 from 8 – 11 a.m. at Griffin Park, located at 100 S. Lakeshore Blvd. in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Volunteers are needed to help clean along the shorelines of Lake Harris, Little Lake Harris, and the surrounding roadways. A limited number of canoes and kayaks are available for those who would like to participate on the water. To make a reservation, call 352-324-6141. Additionally, those with boats, canoes, or kayaks that would like to participate can meet at Griffin Park to collect cleanup materials. Staff will be at Griffin Park until 11 a.m. to receive and properly dispose of litter collected during the cleanup. This is not a drop-off event, and no residential waste will be collected.

KLB will provide gloves, safety vests, trash pickers, trash bags, water, and volunteer t-shirts for those helping to clean the community. Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to wear proper attire, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
