Lake Sumter State College recently issued the following announcement.
Lake-Sumter State College President Dr. Stan Sidor announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2022, at a meeting of the District Board of Trustees on Friday, February 4.
“After thoughtful reflection on my 40 years in private industry and academia, I have decided to retire from the presidency at Lake-Sumter State College,” said Dr. Stan Sidor. “Over these past six years, the trustees, our college faculty and staff, the numerous partners in our community, and more have worked tirelessly to achieve our goals as an institution. Together we have built upon the College’s tradition of providing high-quality, rigorous education and excellent student support to grow new leaders for our communities.”
Under Dr. Sidor’s leadership, Lake-Sumter State College saw significant successes across the institution, including:
- Development of numerous local, regional, and national program partnerships to enhance student success and sustain programs.
- Development, approval, and launch of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree to provide further education to nurses in our area.
- Reaffirmation of regional accreditation by SACSCOC
- Creation of an Honors Program and articulation agreements to premier universities
- Received more than $5 million in lobbied funds and grants to support programs and facilities improvements
“On behalf of the District Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Dr. Sidor for his leadership and advocacy to Lake-Sumter State College over the past six years, during what has been a challenging and transformative period in higher education,” said Tim Morris, Chair of the LSSC District Board of Trustees. “We appreciate his service to the College and look forward to continuing to deliver on our mission of serving students in this community.”
In making the announcement, Dr. Sidor shared his appreciation for the opportunity to serve as LSSC’s sixth president.
“Personally, I will miss every person at our College,” shared Sidor. “You inspire me every day as I witness your genuine care and commitment to our students and each other. Because of you, the shining light of opportunity Lake-Sumter State College offers to every student will continue to burn brightly far into the future.”
The District Board of Trustees will determine and announce next steps for the College’s leadership this spring.
