Lake County Schools recently issued the following announcement.
Construction will start soon on the Aurelia Cole Academy K-8, which will open in Fall 2023, replacing Clermont Elementary and Clermont Middle schools and serving students in kindergarten through Grade 8. Lake County Schools is hosting two community open-house meetings to share plans for the new school and to hear feedback from the public.
Named for an esteemed educator who worked many years in the district, the Aurelia Cole Academy will offer a performing arts program, a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum, and a pre-AICE track for students who want to pursue an Advanced International Certificate of Education diploma in high school.
Its campus sits across the street from Cypress Ridge Elementary School. The district is considering creating one school to serve all affected students, but assigning students in kindergarten through Grade 2 to attend classes at the Cypress Ridge campus, while students in Grades 3-8, along with Pre-K students, attend classes in the new school building.
Scott Voytko, the principal of Cypress Ridge who has been newly appointed to lead the new school, will be joined by district leaders at two community open-house meetings to tell the public more about that option and programs planned for the school, while answering questions and gathering feedback.
The meetings are scheduled for:
Nov. 29, 2021 -- 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Cypress Ridge Elementary
350 East Avenue, Clermont
Dec. 6, 2021 -- 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
