First 20 Win Season Since 2003

4

Lake Sumter State College recently issued the following announcement.

The regular season has come to an end for the Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team and it was one of the best since the early 2000's.

The Lakehawks finished the year with a 20-5 overall record. Those 20 wins during the regular season are the most by a team since 2003 when the team was 22-11 under Steven Benson. One thing is for sure, the 2021 team owns the highest winning percentage of any team in program history at .800. Less the forget the team went 9-2 at home (.818). The best home record under Head Coach, Amanda Phelps. It marked the fifth time in program history a team has reached the 20-win plateau. Only three programs in the state (DI or DII) reached 20+ wins this season.

Ending the season with the second-best record in the Sun-Lakes Conference, LSSC has secured themselves the second seed in the Regional/District Tournament this weekend. St. John's River State College took the No. 1 seed with a 17-1 conference record. The Vikings one loss came at the hands of the Lakehawks in a five-set thriller early on in the season.

A release will be added later this week as a preview to the NJCAA DII Region 8 Tournament.
