Suspect Arrested Following Eustis Bank Robbery

8

Lake County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.

A suspect is in custody following a bank robbery that occurred this afternoon at the Insight Credit Union located at 15120 US Highway 441 in Eustis.

Shortly after 1 p.m. today, a male suspect entered the bank wearing a surgical-type face mask and presented a bank employee with a note, the contents of which are not yet available. The bank employee gave the suspect cash, at which time he ran from the bank and fled the scene in a pick-up truck.

No weapon was observed, and no employees of the bank were injured.

As law enforcement saturated the area in an effort to search for the suspect vehicle, officers with the Tavares Police Department located the suspect attempting to switch vehicles in the nearby Chelsea Oaks subdivision. The suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Maurice Bryon Simpson, was taken into custody, and money appearing to be from the bank was found in the pants that he had in his possession at the time he was captured. He was positively identified from bank surveillance video.

Simpson's booking photo will be available on the Sheriff's Office website once he is processed.

An earlier release indicated that a second person was also in custody; however, after further investigation, that person was not charged.

No further details are available at this time.
