Lake-Sumter State College issued the following announcement on Sept. 29.
A sophomore led Lake-Sumter State College volleyball team sits at 9-3, 8-3, heading into the back end of their regular season schedule.
After going 3-1 last week, the Lakehawks dropped from 15 to 19 in the latest NJCAA National Poll. However, that did not stop Xiomara Williams and Kayla Chambliss from receiving regional recognition for their performances.
Williams averaged 3.5 kills over 17 sets while totaling 73 digs. The sophomore posted a double-double in all four matches in kills and digs. Chambliss averaged 8.4 assists over 16 sets. The Tallahassee native dished out 47 assists against Pensacola State College and followed that up the next day with 46 in a victory over Pasco-Hernando State College.
It is the second time both players have won their respective awards this season.
The Lakehawks will look to rebound from a loss to St. John's River State College on Tuesday night as they head to North Carolina. Lake-Sumter will take the trip up to Hickory, NC to take on Catawba Valley Community College, Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, Spartanburg Methodist and finally Cape Fear Community College over three days beginning Thursday afternoon.
