City of Tavares recently issued the following announcement.

Motorists, please be advised: The southbound lane of S.R. 500A (Old U.S. Hwy. 441) will be closed permanently on April 11, 2022.

Motorists driving west on U.S. 441 (S.R.500/S.R.44) wanting to go south on S.R. 500A (Old U.S. Hwy. 441) will need to turn right onto S.R. 19.

Motorists driving south from North Lakeshore Boulevard wanting to continue going south will have to turn right at U.S. 441 and then proceed to make a U-turn to merge onto Lakeshore Blvd towards S.R. 19.

The purpose of this traffic shift is to allow the contractor to work on realigning the northbound approach of Lakeshore Boulevard (S.R. 500A) at U.S. 441 and the construction of a raised median to separate the left turn lanes from the southbound lanes on Lakeshore Boulevard.

Electronic message boards have been installed to inform motorists about the traffic shift. Please note construction schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.  Motorists are advised to exercise extra caution when driving through the work zone.

Please note construction schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Sunday, Apr. 3, through Saturday, Apr. 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Expect outside lane closures eastbound and westbound, at the intersection of U.S. 441 and Lakeshore Boulevard for wiring operations. Please reduce your speed and exercise caution in the work zone.
